Stephan Alexander Interview — The Artist behind “Go Go” featured in Shuffle Graphic Novel
“I am Alexander; a musician and performing artist born and bred in NYC. I write all types of music, from funk to pop to rock to hip-hop, among many. Currently I am working on a dance album to be released in late summer 2022 and finishing a cantata for a symphonic choir in fall 2022.
My influences are varied. I use everything, from the stillness of a midnight walk in the mountains to the roar of a 70K person crowd at a circuit party on a beach in Barcelona, influence my musical story-telling. My music is my dreams made real.”
Stephan’s song, “Go Go 2021 (Shuffle Remix)” is featured in the upcoming superhero graphic novel, Shuffle. Available for pre-order on Zoop, the comic features David (AKA Shuffle) who gets superpowers based on what songs his suit plays. Too bad his powers only last as long as the songs do…
JD Boucher: Can you tell us a bit about your experience in music leading up to now?
Stephan Alexander: I’m a singer/songwriter out of NYC. Cut my teeth as a session singer for many major artists. Producing my first album now.
JD: What was the production process like for the song featured in Shuffle?
SA: I had recorded the song before and that was the version that JD at Shuffle had heard and asked me about. He said “We really love the song, but is there a way you could change some of the lyrics? There are a lot of ‘$#!* and &#%*’ in the song and this is a graphic novel for kids, so…” I acquiesced and rewrote some of the lyrics to be centered on the main character of the comic, then re-recorded the main vocals for the song.
JD: What song have you been listening to most to lately, and what superpower do you think it would give you?
SA: Lucky Day’s “How Much Can a Heart Take” (featuring Yebba). It clearly gives anyone listening the ability to move at the speed of light.
